You've Never Felt Clean Like This Before...

This is an easy-to-install item that can give you immediate results.

Did you know that your relaxing, steamy, hot shower could be the equivalent to spending a full day in a chlorinated swimming pool? Even if you prefer just a warm shower, the warm water opens up the pores of the skin and allows for accelerated absorption of chlorine and other chemicals in water. The steam we inhale while showering can contain up to 50 times the level of chemicals than tap water due to the fact that chlorine and most other contaminants vaporize much faster and at a lower temperature than water. Inhalation is a much more harmful means of exposure since the chlorine gas (chloroform) we inhale goes directly into our blood stream.

I did not know that, but when I found out, I decided to get a shower filter. I chose the AquaSana Shower Filter with hand-held wand.

Installation

The installation is about as easy as any installation can be. Most shower heads are easy to replace. You simply unscrew your existing shower head, screw the filter unit on in it's place, then screw in the shower head or wand attachment that came with the filter. We recommend that you use plumbing tape for the installation. It's inexpensive and you can find it at any "Home Depot-type" of store. In fact, check your grocery store in the section where they sell light bulbs and other small home repair items - you may find it there. The plumbing tape helps ensure a good seal to prevent leaks.

If your old shower head has been in place for a long time you may need a good pair of pliers or a wrench to loosen it. And you may want to use these same tools to secure your AquaSana Shower, however mine is working fine and leak-free just using my hand to tighten everything into place.

altThe Filtration

The AquaSana uses a 2-stage filtration system. The first stage is KDF filtration. KDF, or Kinetic Degradation Fluxion, is a high quality blend of copper and zinc which creates a chemical process known as redox or oxidation/reduction. This redox reaction removes chlorine, lead, mercury, iron, and hydrogen sulfide from water. Sounds like "magic" or maybe just mumbo-jumbo, right? Well, here's how it works: The copper/zinc blend exchanges electrons with other elements in the water. This "give and take" of electrons changes the structure/blend of most contaminants and what is left are new compounds; heavy metals bind to the copper zinc blend and are removed from the water completely. In this "electron exchange program" the PH of the water is also changed making the water "wetter." Many people find that their shampoos and soaps lather more efficiently.

The AquaSana's 2nd stage of filtration is a coconut shell carbon filter. "Coconut Carbon" filtration is used because of it's superior ability to absorb toxins and particles from air and water thanks to the pore diameter and distribution when compared to other filtration media. In this second stage, VOC, particles and other contaminants are removed from the water leaving you with fresh clean water.

The Shower HeadThe AquaSana Wand from Water Ionizer Authority

If you hate shower heads that won't stay in place, or have an adjustable sprayer with options that seem to be more suited to a torture chamber than a shower you're going to be quite pleased with the shower head/sprayer on the AquaSana. Your adjustments start at what I call a "wide-ring" spray - where water comes from the smallest holes on the outer ring of the shower head - and as you turn the easy-grip ring for adjustment, this wide ring becomes smaller, incorporates more of the smaller holes near the middle of the head. The "midpoint" setting is my favorite. From there you go down to the massage option.

The only disappointing aspect of the AquaSana shower sprayer head is the massage feature. It's fast and hard and almost piercing. I've never been a big "shower massage" fan myself anyway. The massage setting on the shower has plenty of power but the water is rotating through each of the three "massage ports" so quickly that it's more like a "shower vibrate" than a massage. That and the water is focused on too narrow an area for my tastes. All of your other settings though, well, I've paid more for shower head's than my AquaSana Shower filer with Hand-held Wand cost and I can say that the sprayer that came with my AquaSana Shower beats every other shower head sprayer I've used.

And the thing really stay's where you put it. Both the standard shower head and the wand will stay where you put them. One of the biggest reasons I've changed shower heads so often is because I can't get the wand to stay in the right place. I prefer a hand-held wand sprayer to a regular mounted shower head because it makes it easy to rinse the shower and tub. Also I have a Yorkshire Terrier, Xiu-Xiu, and it's much easier to bathe her with the hand-held sprayer. But I never could get the wand to stay in the right place!

The mount for the AquaSana shower wand is the best I've ever had. It stays in place but remains adjustable. I can tilt it up, down, left or right and it never slips back out of place. This was a BIG plus for me. Even if I didn't like the filtered water I'd keep that wand just because it stays put!

What can you expect?

No doubt you'll notice the minute you rinse your hair that something's different. Your hair will feel cleaner, it will be cleaner because the water from your AquaSana shower is actually rinsing clean, not rinsing you with chlorine and other chemicals or toxins. Ladies, when you put on your skin moisturizer after drying off you'll notice a difference. Your skin seems to absorb it much more quickly. Your skin will feel softer almost immediately.

Shower Wand Bath Bonus...

Once I took my first truly "clean" shower, I knew I didn't want to take a chlorine bath. How could I get the same filtration for my bath that I had with my AquaSana Shower? Well, I just used my shower head to fill the bathtub. The hose on the shower wand is long enough for me to rest the hand-held sprayer in the front corner of the edge of my tub. When I get ready for a soak in the tub, I pull my sprayer down, rest it there in that corner and fill my tub with fresh CLEAN bathwater. I've also found that when I add my favorite bath salts, my skin seems to be even softer after the soak.

Summary & Conclusions

This little product is well worth the investment. You'll notice a difference in your skin and hair immediately. The shower head/sprayer itself is a quality product and easily adjustable. The no-slip mount on for the hand-held sprayer is a big plus in my book. And even if you don't want to use the sprayer that comes with the unit you'll find that most other shower heads will attach to the filter unit itself.

The AquaSana Shower with regular sprayer head sells for $67.99 or for an additional $16 you can get the hand-held wand option for $83.96. Replacement filters will cost you $42 and will last 10,000 gallons or 6-8 months. The feeling of true clean when you get out of the shower.... PRICELESS...
