My first choices in the $1,000 price range would be the KYK Products.

I use a Harmony myself and have been very happy with it. I chose it because I travel frequently and take it with me. The flat plates drain more efficiently than the mesh which leaves me less drain time before I feel comfortable packing it up to go. Otherwise I would have gone with the Genesis which has mesh plates, dual filtration, a more advanced cleaning system and higher wattage. The KYK products have higher wattage and greater plate surface area than the other models in the $1,000 – $17500 price range.

KYK Generation II: $1,795 but check for sale and package prices.

KYK Harmony: $1,199 (No longer available, being sold as the Watershed AQ500)

My recommendations in the $2,000 price range would be the Tyent MMP TURBO 7070 or the Jupiter Athena.

Both of these products are dual filter with mesh plates.

The Tyent TURBO 7070 is fully adjustable within each of the alkaline and acidic presets and uses the latest mesh-hybrid plate technology.  Your Tyent TURBO 7070 comes with a full LIFETIME WARRANTY covering both Parts AND Labor for as long as you own the water ionizer.

Tyent TURBO 7070 $2,695 (check for sale pricing & packages)

Jupiter Athena $2,195

What are the most popular alternatives to Enagic’s SD501?

The 2 most popular alternatives to the Enagic SD501 are the KYK Generation II and the Tyent TURBO 7070 followed by the Watershed Products and the Jupiter Athena. The customers find minimal or no difference in the taste and texture of the water and they are all achieving the same personal results as they were when they were drinking Enagic water.

If we go with a unit for the home we prefer someone who has been in the business for more than 5 years and has a good local (US) presence”

The companies who have been in the water ionizer business in the United States the longest are Watershed – owned by Bob McCauley, author of “The Miraculous Properties of Ionized Water,” and Jupiter – also known as IonWays/IonLife and the first company to offer service and repair in the United States. Both of these companies have excellent customer service and wonderful reputation for the safety, quality, and support of their products.

Having tested their products and dealt with their customer service departments, we recommend the Jupiter products, particularly the Melody or the Athena. We have found these two machines to produce high quality water consistently, plus their filtration is excellent, creating wonderful tasting water.

Personally, I use a KYK Harmony (now sold through Watershed as the AQ500) and have been very happy with the little unit.  My father uses an EC550 from Watershed and won’t stop talking about how much he loves it and my Water Ionizer Authority partner, Marcela uses an Enagic SD501.

Marcela has been unhappy with her unit as it has not been performing. After sending it off for two weeks for “repairs” it was returned to her and they said that nothing was wrong with the unit. Still she is unable to get PH levels above 9.2 at this time. I can pull a 10.2 from my Harmony any day of the week and my father gets 9.7 from his EC550 every day as well.

KYK has only been in the US for about 5 years now and was the best selling water ionizer brand for many dealers in 2009.  (as of 2010)

Tyent has only been doing this for close to 5 years now as well but are growing in sales volume, company size and service & reliability.  (as of 2010)

Enagic has also had a U.S. presence for over 5 years however many people are choosing other companies due to price issues and also reports of long waits for repairs. Most water ionizer companies will have your unit repaired and back to you within 5 business days. Some provide a loaner unit and some even ship a replacement/loaner unit to you and have you send the problem unit back to them in the box your replacement came in.

When you get closer to making a decision you want to consider how you will be taken care of should you have any issues with the unit during the warranty period. If you have questions about “service after sale” on any company, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will be happy to provide detailed information for you.

Also, when shopping, beware of too good to be true pricing. Many companies are voiding warranty and returns on units sold below authorized dealer pricing. We strictly adhere to the sales guidelines for all units that we sell to ensure that our customers have full service and support long after the sale of their unit.

I Have heard about ‘sticks’ to use in water bottles for away from home use (school/work) as well. Anything there?

Yes, these do work well but we typically recommend a “pitcher” product – either the H2Go or the Alklpod. These can be used with regular unfiltered tap water and both effectively eliminate bacteria, chlorine and other chemicals as well as VOC’s. The H2Go sells right now for $65 and the Alkapod for $139.

The H2Go holds about 16 ounces (a typical tall glass of water) and is much more portable.  We have a customer who updates us almost on a weekly basis reporting PH levels of 10.0 and greater using a high-dollar PH meter. These results are not typical but we are thrilled to hear this from him. Were he not an employee of a chemical company with access to resources to check his results we would be a bit skeptical of his results. To date he’s ordered 4 H2Go Portable water ionizers with replacement filters.

Do you have portable water ionizers?

We have 2 portable ionizing pitchers. These are used by pouring water into the units, and the water is alkalized and made available for drinking within minutes. The way they work is similar to Brita units. However, the whatever contains a high pH and a low ORP, plus it contains suitable minerals. The structure of the water is not changed as this can only be done by the process of electrolysis, but we believe this is the best method to be used when you’re “On the Go”.

We do not recommend these as a replacement to a water ionizer, but they are wonderful as a companion to a water ionizer for use when you’re travelling or away from your machine for more than a couple of hours.
