Also known as Somelite, coral sand consists of natural coral grains. This is primarily made up of shells and skeletons of reef-building coral and Foraminifera, such as star sand, that inhabit the waters near Okinawa. These organisms ingest mainly calcium and magnesium from the ocean. The result is a mineral rich sand made up of approximately 95% calcium carbonate. Coral sand also contains abundant amounts of calcium, magnesium and other minerals required by the body for optimal health.
Used as a water-purifying agent, the minerals in coral sand flow into the water, creating water with a balance of minerals. It also turns acidic tap water alkaline and removes odor. Because coral sand is porous, it also absorbs and removes heavy metals, foreign materials and more.
