I’ve been getting questions from customers concerned about “rumors” they’ve heard with regard to water ionizer warranty limitations and companies “voiding” warranties for different reasons. Here’s the real truth about warranties from the major water ionizer companies….
First let me say that all water ionizer warranties carry SOME limitations. These are the same ‘common sense’ limitations that you will find in ANY product warranty. No company – water ionizer or otherwise – will cover damage caused by inappropriate use, mistreatment, “acts of God” or failure to follow the proper instructions for use and maintenance. Warranties will also be voided if the unit has been opened up (other than as necessary for replacing filters) or repairs have been made or attempted by anyone other than an authorized technician for the product.
Parts Not Covered
Faucet adapters, hoses and other accessory items are typically not covered under warranty. Hoses should last for the life of the unit unless they have been damaged by crimping or some other type of misuse. If your water ionizer is less than one year old and you have an issue with your faucet adapter a company may offer to replace this at no charge – this type of issue is handled on a case-by-case basis directly with the water ionizer company.
Companies with no known warranty restrictions
Water for Life USA and Watershed offer full 5 year “bumper to bumper” warranties on their products. I have found no “warranty voided if” clauses with any of these units outside of what you would find on any other product – related to misuse, acts of God, dropping the unit or cosmetic damage or wear and tear or if the unit has been opened up (other than as necessary for replacing filters) or repairs have been made or attempted by anyone other than an authorized technician for the product.
Tyent USA offers a 10 year warranty on their regular 7070 model and a bumper to bumper LIFETIME warranty on their TURBO model, standing behind these units for both parts and labor for as long as you own one.
KYK USA offers a 7 year warranty covering both parts & labor on their water ionizer products with no restrictions regarding usage or source water.
Alkalux also has a 7-year parts & labor warranty with no restrictions on usage or source water.
Companies with Warranty Restrictions
Enagic has a full five year warranty on their SD501 and full 3-year warranty on all other models. In addition to the standard exclusions, Enagic reserves the right to void the warranty if they determine that the unit has not been cleaned using their cleaning cartridge as recommended.
LIFE Water Ionizers also reserves the right to void the warranty if it is determined that damage was caused due to failure to use the recommended pre-filters for their unit. The LIFE water ionizer company runs a water report for each customer to determine pre-filtration needs. The recommended pre-filters are shipped with the unit. Should the company determine that the recommended pre-filter has not been used or the pre-filter cartridge not maintained (changed) at recommended intervals the company reserves the right to void the warranty.
Both Chanson and Jupiter Science products (sold under the brand names IonLife and IonWays) offer a full five year warranty on parts and labor but will stand behind the parts inside these units for as long as you own them. Customers are only asked to pay the labor cost to replace the parts along with shipping The Chanson water ionizers allow for adjustment based on source water TDS (total dissolved solids) and does have restrictions regarding “overuse” – using their units for commercial purposes or producing large quantities of water on a daily basis. The chanson products are designed for in-home family use.
Any damage determined to be caused by setting the unit for TDS higher than 14 or overuse (running the unit repeatedly for longer than 20 minutes at a time or for more than 4 hours a day) can be just cause for the company to void the warranty.
There should be no cause for concern about a warranty being voided by a company provided you use the unit as directed and follow the recommended schedule maintenance/filter replacement. If you have concerns about the warranty of a specific water ionizer brand or model, please feel free to contact me by phone or e-mail. I can tell you that of the dozen water ionizers that I have now from multiple companies, all are still performing just as well as they did when I first got them.
I can also assure you that after dealing with the major water ionizer companies for over 18 months now, I have yet to see an incident where the company failed to address any issues a customer had with a unit. Whether someone purchased their unit directly from me or from another water ionizer retailer, often people call me with issues – and I’m always happy to help. So far Tyent, Water for Life USA, KYK-USA, LIFE, Chanson and Watershed have all taken care of any issues that have been reported to them through Water Ionizer Authority.
If you have questions about warranties for specific brands or models, please feel free to contact me either by phone or e-mail. I’d be happy to share what I know about the warranty for those products – and provide as much information as you need to help you make an informed decision.
